Activision said Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will go live on Nov. 6. The company described the update in a PlayStation Blog post dated Oct. 28. The post calls Season 1 the game’s first free content update.
The update adds content to Multiplayer, the DMZ mode and Call of Duty: Warzone, according to the post. It also adds new weapons, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints.
Multiplayer gets three new maps at launch. The post describes Backstab, a war-torn map with abandoned tanks, and Canyon, which has towering rock walls. It also describes a reimagined version of Shoot House set in North Korea during a snowfall.
Two modes are available at launch. In Grind, players eliminate opponents, recover their dog tags and take them to a location called the Bank to score for their team. Drop Zone returns, with teams fighting to hold a single rotating objective while Killstreak packages are airdropped over it.
Activision said more maps and modes will come in a mid-season update. Ministry is a new map set around an embassy during a diplomatic summit. Overflow is a new map centered on a factory and surrounding farmland. Counter Attack is a new mode in which players detonate bombs at the enemy’s Comm Station while defending their own. The post did not give a date for the mid-season update.
In DMZ, the new location is X01, which the post describes as a weapons facility seized by enemy forces. It has tunnels and shifting hazards, and extraction points begin to close off as players try to leave. The post says X01 also brings multiple pages of new DMZ Orders, a Threat Briefing aimed at the biggest boss threats, and Resupply Runs.
Warzone gets two new maps, Hajin and Zodiac, with additional game modes and gameplay features. Activision said more details, including a full Season 1 roadmap for Warzone, will come soon.
Two new weapons arrive in the Season 1 Battle Pass, a premium set of unlockable rewards that players purchase. They are the Cronen Osprey assault rifle and the CSG-35 submachine gun. Activision said the Cronen Osprey combines speed with moderate power. It said the CSG-35 has the highest fire rate in its class and excels at close range.
The company said the Battle Pass has more than 100 unlockable items, including Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints and Finishing Moves. It said a new catch-up system guarantees more than 50 rewards to buyers. Players who fall behind in the premium Battle Pass will be automatically moved up to the reward that matches the current day of the season, up to day 50. The post did not state the price of the Battle Pass.
