Game Director Tom Bird said The Silver Seas, the latest expansion for Age of Wonders 4, is out now, according to an Xbox Wire post.
Bird said the expansion answers player requests for more seabound gameplay. It focuses on piracy and ocean-based empire building.
The post said the expansion’s core is the Mercantile Culture, which allows players to place cities at sea and turn them into floating fortresses. It adds two approaches to piracy: the Cartel, which grows through smuggling and secrecy, and the Barony, which uses wealth to place bounties on enemies and import what an empire needs.
The Silver Seas introduces two new seafaring forms, Sharkkin and Aqualon. Bird said both were based on community ideas, with Aqualon inspired by concept art shared during work on a prior expansion and Sharkkin reflecting repeated player calls for “Sharks!”.
The post said the expansion also adds a Magic Tome that uses water magic, noting that ice magic is a natural progression for water magic. It includes new Pirate Dwellings, pirate-themed stories, and new sea creatures to battle. Bird said the team also wrote a sea shanty for the release.
Bird said community reactions helped shape the additions and will inform future work. The post did not state a price or release platforms for the expansion.
