Netflix on Tuesday announced the start of filming and the cast for Chapapote, a new comedy from director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo. The film is produced by Bambú Producciones, Netflix said.
The story is set in 2002 after the oil tanker Prestige split in two off the Galician coast, according to Netflix. The beaches are covered by an oil slick except for one in the small town of Agarimo. With no fishing, no aid, and no volunteers arriving, the town considers a desperate plan: if the oil spill will not reach their beach, they might bring it there themselves.
Tamar Novas (The sea inside, Gangs of Galicia) stars in the film, Netflix said. The cast also includes Carlos Blanco (The Asunta case, Riot Police), María Vázquez (Matria, Band Together), Alexandra Jiménez (Proxies, Go Team!), Irene Arcos (The Pier, Alpha Males) and Fer Fraga (Unprotected: Murder in Galicia). There is a special appearance by Antonio Durán “Morris” (Fariña, Animal).
Daniel Sánchez Arévalo directs Chapapote. The film is based on an original idea by Ramón Campos (Band Together, Collision, The Asunta Case), who wrote the screenplay with Sánchez Arévalo and serves as executive producer, Netflix said.
The production credits include Rafa García as director of photography, Eva Camino as costume designer, Antonio Pereira as production designer, Miguel Sanz as editor, and Federico Jusid as composer of the original score.
Netflix did not state a release date.
