Netflix announced Oct. 27 that the second season of Old Dog, New Tricks will premiere on the streaming service on Jan. 1, 2027. The company released a premiere date announcement video and first-look images with the news.
Alea Media produces the series. Netflix said it was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2026 International Emmy Awards.
Luis Zahera, Lucía Caraballo, Carmen Ruiz and Álvaro Mel lead the cast, according to Netflix. Adrián Viador, Raquel Nogueira, Pepo Suevos and Lucía Veiga are also in the cast, among others.
Netflix described the new season’s story this way. Antón, played by Zahera, has won over clients, colleagues and his boss, Mike, played by Mel, at the new Kawanda Urban. His situation changes when his niece, Uxía, played by Caraballo, arrives. She has just finished a course in ethology, which is the science of animal behavior.
The two are forced to share a practice. Netflix said they turn every diagnosis into a battle: Antón looks for physical ailments, while Uxía focuses on emotional issues.
Antón, Uxía and Mike then launch a pet burial service that brings unexpected prosperity to the village of Topomorto, according to Netflix. The company said the village changes quickly as newcomers and new trends arrive. When their good fortune starts to look suspicious, Antón sets out to find out what is going on.
Víctor García León created the series. Laura M. Campos and Manu Gómez direct it, and Teresa Bellón, César Calvillo and García León wrote the scripts. Aitor Gabilondo, Jota Aceytuno and García León are executive producers.
Alea Media is a production company founded in 2017 by Gabilondo, according to Netflix. The company’s other titles include Patria, Wrong Side of the Tracks, Unauthorized Living, I, addict and Salvador. Netflix said the Emmy nomination for Old Dog, New Tricks came after the success of its first season.
