Pearl Abyss released Charting the Unknown, downloadable content (DLC) for its game Crimson Desert, on Oct. 29. The company said the DLC brings new storylines, ocean exploration, romance, stronghold management and a boss-fight challenge.

The announcement was posted on Xbox Wire, Microsoft’s Xbox news site, by Petra, a community manager at Pearl Abyss. The company said the DLC is available now on Xbox Series X|S. A summary in the post also lists Xbox on PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The post did not give a price for the DLC.

According to Pearl Abyss, Charting the Unknown adds three new storylines, one each for the characters Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. The company said each character sets out on a separate path after the fight for the Greymanes and the game world of Pywel.

For the first time, players can explore the ocean, the company said. Players can dive underwater to find ruins, treasure chests, new creatures and mounts. They can also build a ship and sail the Great Ocean of Pywel.

The DLC also adds relationship features. Pearl Abyss said the three main characters can build trust with some of Pywel’s inhabitants, and that these bonds may lead to romance and marriage.

An upgraded housing system lets players design a house from the ground up, including interior layout, walls and windows, the company said. Players can also take over select castles after liberating them and decorate the courtyards and interiors. In addition, players can lease certain facilities in liberated strongholds, such as a restaurant or a smithy. The company said players can assign equipment and comrades, choose which goods to sell and grow the location’s recognition.

A new mode called the Garden of Trials is focused on combat. Pearl Abyss said players face the bosses they have met during the game one after another.

The post also recapped earlier updates. Crimson Desert launched in March, according to the company. In August, Pearl Abyss released Patch Version 2.00, a free update that added story moments and expanded voice-over and language support. The company said that update, together with earlier post-launch updates, was released as Crimson Desert Enhanced.

Pearl Abyss is also offering Xbox players a five-hour free trial of the base game starting Oct. 29. The post gives two end dates for the trial. A summary says it runs through Jan. 7, 2027, while the body text says through Jan. 6. The post did not explain the difference.

The post includes a store listing for Crimson Desert Enhanced, the full game, at $69.99.
