A PlayStation Blog post announced that sci-fi horror game Derelikt will launch on PlayStation 5 on Nov. 13. The post was written by Philipp Jensen, Creator and Art Director of Derelikt at Visuwyg.
Jensen said the title is designed to emulate late-1990s PlayStation visuals while using modern game design. The post said players can pre-order the game now and receive a 10% discount.
According to the post, Derelikt is set aboard the Von Neumann Outpost, which is attached to an anomalous asteroid in Saturn’s orbit. Players arrive as an outside contractor investigating the fate of Excavation Team Delta, who went missing on the derelict surface. The post said the outpost’s halls are dark, systems are failing, and survivor accounts conflict.
The post said the outpost includes an arsenal of traditional weapons, as well as more outlandish weapon prototypes and alien weapons found later. It said resource management, exploration, dialogues, and old-school puzzle solving are core to the game alongside fast gunplay.
Jensen said the team aimed to make Derelikt look like a period title while remaining visually appealing. The post said the game uses hand-painted textures, vertex color lighting, and deliberately implemented affine texture warping that is mitigated by dynamically subdividing geometry. It also features retro-style full-motion CGI cutscenes and options to toggle effects to taste, according to the post.
Development began in late 2021 and had a “turbulent and exciting” path, the post said. The post did not state the price.
