Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand announced that she will travel to Atlanta for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and to Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Anand will attend the Commonwealth meeting, held in St. John’s, alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney. Global Affairs Canada said the trips will advance the country’s foreign policy priorities and strengthen relationships with international partners.

In Atlanta, Anand will meet with G20 counterparts to discuss international cooperation and global challenges. The talks will focus on freedom of navigation in strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Black Sea, as well as maritime security in the Indo-Pacific, the agency said. Discussions will also cover food security, global trade resilience, energy security and supply chains.

The Commonwealth meeting in St. John’s will operate under the theme of accelerating partnerships and investment for a prosperous Commonwealth. Discussions there are expected to focus on attracting investment, expanding economic opportunity, strengthening climate resilience and advancing shared values, according to the release.

The agency said Canada’s engagement at the meetings will reaffirm its commitment to multilateral cooperation to advance peace, security and sustainable development. The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 member countries.
